三稜 매자기 뿌리 (삼릉)

主癥瘕結塊.
주징가결괴.
Sparganium's primary use is to dissolve hard lumps and masses that form within the abdomen.

治婦人血積,
치부인혈적,
It treats blood stasis that has accumulated and hardened in a woman's body.

落胎,
낙태,
Its action is so strong that it can cause miscarriage, so it must never be given to pregnant women.

通月經,
통월경,
It opens up menstruation that has become blocked or obstructed.

消惡血,
소악혈,
It disperses and clears away the stagnant, diseased blood lingering in the body.

産後血暈腹痛,
산후혈훈복통,
It relieves the dizziness and abdominal pain that arise from blood disorders after childbirth.

宿血不下,
숙혈불하,
It moves out old, retained blood that has long failed to discharge from the body.

消撲損瘀血.
소박손어혈.
It disperses bruises and blood clots caused by falls or physical injury.

處處有之, 多生淺水中.
처처유지, 다생천수중.
It grows everywhere, mostly springing up in shallow wetlands and water margins.

葉皆三稜,
엽개삼릉,
All its leaves have three distinct edges, which is the origin of the name sam-reung, meaning three-ridged.

霜降後採根, 削去皮鬚.
상강후채근, 삭거피수.
The root is dug up after the first frost, then peeled and trimmed of its fine rootlets.

黃色體重, 狀若鯽魚而小, 以體重者爲佳.
황색체중, 상약즉어이소, 이체중자위가.
Good quality roots are yellow and heavy, shaped like a small crucian carp, and the heavier they feel in hand, the better.

不出苗, 卽生細根, 屈如爪者, 謂之雞爪三稜,
불출묘, 즉생세근, 굴여조자, 위지계조삼릉,
When no shoot emerges and only fine roots grow curved like a chicken's claw, it is called gye-jo sam-reung, or chicken-claw sparganium.

不生細根, 形如烏梅者, 謂之黑三稜, 同一物也. 《本草》
불생세근, 형여오매자, 위지흑삼릉, 동일물야. 《본초》
When it lacks fine roots and resembles a dried black plum, it is called heuk sam-reung, or black sparganium, yet despite the different names it is the very same herb. (Bencao)

醋煮熟, 剉, 焙乾用, 或火炮用. 《入門》
초자숙, 좌, 배건용, 혹화포용. 《입문》
It is simmered thoroughly in vinegar, chopped fine, and dried over gentle heat, or else lightly roasted over flame before use. (Ipmun)
