花 Byeondukong Byeondu (변두콩 변두)
Byeondu is the flower of the hyacinth bean. From summer into autumn, long flower stalks rise from the leaf axils, bearing tiers of white or pale purple butterfly-shaped blossoms. In the Grains section (Gokbu, 穀部) of the Dongui Bogam, the leaf and the flower are each given their own one-line entry beneath the hyacinth bean itself. Where each blossom fades, a flat, broad pod forms in its place.
