澤漆 Beodeulot Ssak (버들옷 싹)

Taekchil is the young shoot of daegeuk, a spurge. The text says it was gathered in the fourth and fifth lunar months. Like the rest of the spurge family, the plant bleeds a milky latex when cut and is poisonous, so it is not something to put in the mouth.

  1. 主浮腫, 利大小腸, 止瘧. 此大戟苗也. 四五月採. 《本草》

    It governs puffy swelling, frees the large and small intestines, and stops malarial disorder. This is the sprout of daegeuk (大戟). It is gathered in the fourth and fifth months. 《Boncho (本草)》
