Goei is the bracket fungus that grows on the trunk of a Chinese scholar tree. It takes the character for ear because it juts from the wood like one, and it sits among the bracket and wood-ear fungi that grow on standing trunks. Donguibogam handled mushrooms in the vegetable section.
