根 Neungsohwa Ppuri (능소화 뿌리)
Trumpet creeper root is the root of the trumpet creeper (Campsis grandiflora), a woody vine that climbs walls and tall trees. In the Wood section (木部) of the Dongui Bogam, the plant appears first under Jawi (紫葳), the entry devoted to its flower, followed by separate sub-entries for the root and for the stem and leaves.
The original entry on the root is a single brief line, recording neither a harvesting season nor any method of preparation. Today the trumpet creeper is familiar mainly as an ornamental vine draped over garden walls and pavilions, and its root is no longer gathered for use.
