Mogwanamu Ppuri (모과나무 뿌리)

Geun (根) is the root of the Chinese quince tree. In the Dongui Bogam, it appears not as a standalone entry but as a brief record of a plant part appended to the Chinese quince (mogwa) entry in the Fruits section (果部), with a main text of only a single line — one of the shortest items in the book.

The Chinese quince is a deciduous tree of the rose family (Rosaceae). Its bark peels away in patches, leaving a distinctive mottled pattern on the trunk. Today only the fruit is harvested; the root is no longer dug up for use.
